The commercial significance of a foundation model is that it is a substrate, not a product. Everything useful gets built on top: adapters, skills, tool access, retrieval, and the guard rails a client will actually sign off.
For a studio the practical consequence is churn. Models are replaced faster than pipelines are, so anything valuable belongs in the pipeline (the plates, the identity sheets, the gates, the ledger) and not in a particular model’s quirks.
